Heart Wide Open Christmas Day 10 – We Came to See Jesus

Dec9_Day10_SocialMediaImageYou’ve had a moment like this.

Mine was…

They were singing.

“Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heav’nly song?

Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ Whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee,
Christ the Lord, the newborn King.

See Him in a manger laid,
Whom the choirs of angels praise;
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid,
While our hearts in love we raise.

“Angels we have heard on high
Sweetly singing o’er the plains,
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

The choir’s voices soared, climbing in unison and erupting in the sweetest, vibrant harmony. Scanning the upturned faces, it was obvious the Christmas hymn populated a place in each singer’s heart. Eyes closed. Tears dropped. Noses were swiped.  The night air was brisk. There, under shadowed light, the manger scene. A somber, lovely Mary.  A tall, strong Joseph. The tiniest baby slept. Peaceful, closed up in a hug by his mother.

Time stood still. For this moment felt divine . There was holiness in it. Hush. The chorus silenced. A fragrance of the restless sheep and donkey spilling out from the structure, pungent this chilly evening. Blinking stars brilliantly lit the winter night.

We could see Jesus. There was a baby there. Stirring. Purring. Surrounded by  mother and father.

It would have been simple to have missed it. In the tenderness of it though, we all felt it. THIS must have been what it was like to come to Bethlehem. To see the newborn Child. To believe it. To know. To really know. The prophecies were true.

And maybe, just maybe, tonight we heard angels.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved).” Eph.2: 4-5

My friend, Shellie Tomlinson, is leading us on this holy journey this Christmas season. So blessed to be a part of this search. Seeking Jesus in each day, each moment of the holidays. Never to forget. Not for a moment. To seek Jesus.

Thank you Shellie for your vision and direction.

Check out more of Shellie’s heart here and download a precious printable. Here’s what it looks like. Don’t you just love it. Print it out and carry it with you. Post it at work. Place it in your Bible. Reminding you to Look and Listen for the HOLY as you seek Jesus.
