Choosing Christmas Day Two

Choosing Christmas Day Two

Day Two

December 4

Welcome back! It’s time to set the stage for this fascinating meeting between two otherwise average women. I’d love to have some props, a few hints of period costuming, and some sound effects; but even without them, there’s no lack for drama in this story. The moment is pulsing with emotion as the curtain rises. Let’s lean in and listen carefully.

Elizabeth’s younger cousin Mary has just arrived at her house unexpectedly. Elder Elizabeth, with her protruding belly, has no way of knowing that young Mary has had her own angelic vision and miraculous conception. Elizabeth has no idea that the angel who brought her husband the startling news of her impending pregnancy months earlier, has now appeared to her younger relative with similar, yet unparalleled, news. Furthermore, she surely doesn’t know that this same Gabriel had told the younger woman that she, Elizabeth, the one everyone called “barren” is six months into her own miracle. Talk about setting the stage!

2) It’s obvious that Elizabeth’s news hadn’t yet traveled to her immediate family. Why do you suppose God would want Gabriel to tell Mary that her older cousin was expecting. . .and why now? Don’t make this more difficult than it needs to be. Just ask the Holy Spirit, meditate on the question, and journal what you sense could be the reason. You can even “take” the question with you into your day and return to your journaling space this evening. It’ll be good food to ponder.  See you tomorrow!

Hugs,
Shellie
