Be The Woman: Proverbs 31 Woman

Be The Woman: Proverbs 31 Woman

You’re a busy woman, running a home, running kids around, running a business, running a marriage. You juggle meals and babies. You volunteer at church and in the community. You’re today’s superwoman! This Proverbs 31 Woman? Ancient day’s superwoman.

Even as an ancient proverb, this woman can be a model for today’s woman. You might be surprised at how current this ancient wisdom really can be. This picture of Biblical womanhood may be most clearly described in this verse.

“Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

  • She knows to not be caught up in temporary and shallow qualities.
  • She knows for a woman of God to have a good personality and a beautiful face and body is not enough.
  • She is respected – praised – well thought of by others because of her God-led character.
  • She practices pleasing God.

The traits of the Proverbs 31 Woman are considered relevant today because they aren’t based on things that are cheap or trashy, selfish, or centered in fantasy. Instead this Biblical description is rich in wisdom, practical and real, and encourages devotion to those things that matter most. Home. Family. Marriage. Friends. Community. The woman explained in this text keeps her purpose in line with God and this keeps her priorities in life clear. She is a woman who is beloved by her husband and her children and respected in her community.

Who is this superwoman? Is she like you? Do you even know any woman who is like this? Certainly, she would be admired, respected and perhaps, unbelievable!

We need to realize that this woman isn’t real, but the picture of that ideal character of womanhood. She has the traits that all of us as a woman of God can work to acquire. She is a poetic portrayal of a woman who didn’t necessarily always have her act together. But over time she grows in her character and spiritual maturity through her various life experiences. It’s been said that “wisdom isn’t just timeless; it takes time.”

So what do you and I need to do to join this woman in her pursuit of God and all things good and godly? How can we “Be the Woman”?

Practice makes perfect.
Or so they say.
Why don’t we begin this day, this week- this year, to practice Biblical Womanhood? And let’s begin with practicing where it really counts. In our homes.

Take It to Heart – Take It Home
Let’s Get Practical

Practice being good at….

What would it be like for you if you began to serve your family, your husband, your
children as if it was the highest and best purpose in your life?
Would anything be different?
Would your kids notice anything different about you?
Would you husband see a change in you?

Think: In deciding to behave better or even practicing a better attitude what must you change in yourself and/or in your life?

“The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us.” C.S. Lewis
