Pastor John Mac Arthur, is well-known as a man of God, a man of Biblical wisdom and knowledge, and a teaching pastor. He is best known too for his exceptional speaking abilities. Pastor MacArthur gives a lot of credit to his mom and dad for helping him to do what he does today. He pastors a 7000 member church, has written more than 100 books, and teaches Bible courses in seminary. He remembers how his parents loved the Lord and that God was the center of life – the core of their home life. His Dad was a 4th generation preacher. His grandfather taught his dad by example to live life in love and service to Christ.
My children and yours are special gifts from God to us. Just their birth, their life, their presence for us as parents are treasures. I pray you do see your child as a blessing to your life. MacArthur says this about his own parents, “What my father believes, he preaches and he lives. My parents are always the same – in church and at home – not perfect, but consistent.” He writes that his parents loved each other and he tells how this impacted him. “I believe that the chief ingredient for a fulfilled family life is not the love that parents give their children, but the love that they have for each other. That love is the most powerful tool they have for helping their children feel secure.”
As we help our children grow to be all that God intends them to be. As we teach them to love the Lord with their whole heart can we do anything better to prepare them for life than to give them the strong foundation of a happy, love-filled childhood? What better way to get them ready to embrace God’s call on their life than to build a loving, Christ-filled home?
Perhaps then, like Pastor John Mac Arthur, your child will one day not only be a blessing to you because of your loving guidance and influence, but also to many others.
